China’s latest power capacity data for January–July 2026 are out! Solar PV additions return to growth

China’s National Energy Administration (NEA) released its latest national power sector statistics for January–July 2026 on August 25. Wind power additions surge 271% YoY in July, while solar PV up 28%.

📊 According to calculations based on NEA latest data, China added 8.45 GW of wind power capacity in July, up 271% year-on-year. Solar PV additions reached 14.08 GW, up 28% year-on-year.

From January to July 2026, China added 86.15 GW of solar PV capacity and 47.07 GW of wind power capacity.

By the end of July 2026, China’s total installed power generation capacity had reached 4,078.20 GW, up 11.0% year-on-year. Installed solar power capacity stood at 1,288.04 GW, up 16.1%, while wind power capacity reached 687.20 GW, up 19.5%.

🔌 Separately, NEA data released on August 21 show that China’s total electricity consumption reached a record 1,040 TWh in July, up 1.7% year-on-year, bringing consumption from January to July to 6,139.9 TWh, up 4.7%.

Electricity consumption by charging and battery-swapping services reached 16.4 TWh in July, up 50.3% year-on-year, and 97.4 TWh in the first seven months of 2026, up 55.8%. Electricity use by internet data services reached 9.9 TWh in July, up 40.1%, and 59.3 TWh from January to July, up 43.3%.
